John Edwards’ nasty mistress cattily dissed his cancer-stricken wife to a friend – and later coldly blamed the ailing spouse for getting her fired from a videography job on her lover’s presidential campaign, a new report claims.

“She does not give off good energy,” Rielle Hunter sneered of Elizabeth Edwards during a late 2006 lunch with Newsweek reporter Jonathan Darman, who was covering the campaign at the time.

“She didn’t make eye contact with me.”

Several months later, when Hunter was booted from her $100,000-plus job filming “Webisodes” on Edwards’ campaign, she blasted Elizabeth Edwards, sniping, “Someday, the truth about her is going to come out,” Darman wrote.

Why the hell hasn’t Edwards come forward to dispute these stories? Is there some truth to them? 

JOHN Edwards has gone, in a few months, from being one of the Democrats’ strongest presidential candidates to a party pariah who won’t be allowed to speak at the national convention later this month.

The handsome former North Carolina senator is considered a stirring orator, and still has 19 delegates pledged to him, which would make him a key speaker under normal circumstances.

But Edwards has been dogged by stories in the National Enquirer about an alleged affair with a campaign videographer, Rielle Hunter, who gave birth in February to a daughter said to be Edwards’ “love child.”

Top Dems say that if Edwards doesn’t publicly address the scandal, and put it to rest, he won’t be allowed to become a embarrassing distraction during the convention in Denver, where Sen. Barack Obama will accept the presidential nomination.

“The big media [have] tried to be responsible and handle this with kid gloves, but it’s clearly getting ready to bust out,” Democratic strategist Gary Pearce told the Charlotte Observer. “If it’s not true, he’s got to stand up and say, ‘This is not true. That is not my child, and I’m going to take legal action against the people who are spreading these lies.’ It’s not enough to say, ‘That’s tabloid trash.’ ”

Don Fowler, a former Democratic National Committee chair, told the paper: “If there is not an explanation that’s satisfactory, acceptable and meets high moral standards, the answer is ‘no’ – he would not be a prime candidate to make a major address to the convention.”

DNC spokesperson Natalie Wyeth told Page Six: “It’s tradition that all candidates for the nomination are invited to attend, and this year will be no different.”

But a veteran party operative told us, “I don’t think anyone wants to go near him unless he answers all the questions.” Another Democrat said, “He will probably go, but do no interviews and try to be invisible.”

Several attempts to contact Edwards drew no response.

Wow. As a John Edwards fan I found this article to be very disturbing. Why has this been silenced in the media? It certainly does have all the necessary components for worthy news. This article is from another blogger who is trying to get this story out there as it should be addressed! I’m not saying that any of these allegations are true but this is the first I have even heard about this. Seems strange as he was running for President of the United States just a few months ago?

Before I dive in, let me get the ‘objectivity’ thing out of the way. As a citizen journalist whose main claim to fame is producing satirical comedy, I can be upfront about my political leanings. I’m a recovering libertarian and currently I’m a registered Democrat who is excited to be voting for Barack Obama in November. I like John Edwards and up until a few days ago, he would have been my first choice for Vice President on an Obama ticket. I’m far from Puritan — anything two or more consenting adults want to do is fine by me. I also think it’s obvious a person’s sexual life doesn’t keeps them from being an effective politician.

I’m judging this situation using two standards; 1) what’s the truth? 2) how’s it going to play out in the media?

The truth is that I believe anyone who looks into the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter affair story will see that Edwards has, at best, acted in a very suspicious manner for over a year now. When the Larry Craig story was breaking, I didn’t buy his particular line of bullshit and I don’t buy Edwards’s either after I’ve spent the last couple of days Googling with my wife. (That’s not as dirty as it sounds.) At first, I was skeptical of the National Enquirer story catching Edwards leaving the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel at 2:45am because there were no pictures and the tabloids aren’t reliable. Now it turns out that Edwards was at the hotel, so was Ms. Hunter, and that he when he saw reporters he hid in the bathroom until security guards came and got him.

I got more suspicious after reading a story on The Huffington Post from last September by Sam Stein detailing the weird story of some short webisodes about John Edwards that mysteriously were pulled off the internet. Read it yourself here and fold it into the mix of the current allegations.
