TV and Movies

According to Yahoo Buzz, Tom Cruise makes a hush-hush appearance in the movie and is BALD. Check it out.

Tropic Thunder” may have done more than re-establish Ben Stiller as a scribe and Robert Downey Jr. as the man of a 1,000 accents. The 127-minute inside-joke-a-minute satire may have restored, at least for the moment, the glory of Tom Cruise.

Good luck catching a glimpse of Cruise’s prolonged cameo as a despicable movie executive (if that’s not too redundant). Paramount wisely bought the advance critical hype and clamped down on publicity photos. His stint as lunatic backstabber Les Grossman has sent people searching for ”tom cruise tropic thunder” (+919%), “tom cruise fat tropic thunder” (infinity spike), and certain moves that will remain non-spoiled (and must be seen to be believed anyway).

The performance prompted Esquire to run a headline, “Welcome Back, Tom Cruise.” Meanwhile, searches have soared for “tom cruise movies” and “tom cruise imdb.” Cruise’s comic turn taps into the manic reservoir that got him a Best Supporting Actor nomination as a sexist self-help guru in “Magnolia” and the ridicule after the Oprah’s incident. (Or, as searchers describe it in Olympian terms, “tom cruise couch jumping.”)

For the moment, fans can emerge from deep hiding and enjoy the boy wonder without shame. With the stars and searches coming into alignment for Cruise, the only thing he has to watch out for is himself… and maybe Angelina Jolie replacing him on the comeback trail.

“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” has solved the mystery of who will replace departing CBS series star William Petersen: It’s Laurence Fishburne

Fishburne, an Emmy and Tony winner, will be introduced in the ninth episode of the upcoming 10th season, the network told The Associated Press on Monday. He’ll play a forensics scientist with a secret.

“I am elated and delighted to be joining the cast of `CSI,’” Fishburne said in a statement, adding that he looked forward to a “wonderful collaboration” with those involved in the series.

Fishburne plays a college lecturer and former pathologist who is focused on why people commit acts of violence.

The air date for Petersen’s final episode has yet to be determined but will be early next year. Petersen has been with the series since it debuted in fall 2000 and will remain a “CSI” executive producer, the network said.

In her first major acting gig, British soul and R&B singer Joss Stone is joining the cast of Showtime’s drama “The Tudors” for its upcoming third season.

Stone will play Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII (Rhys Meyers).

A daughter of a German nobleman, Anne was betrothed to Henry in a marriage treaty between the Cleves Court and the king’s chancellor after Henry was shown a portrait of her.

Upon Anne’s arrival to England, Henry was disappointed in her looks and soon found a legal way to have the marriage annulled.

According to Showtime, the upcoming season of the racy royal drama will follow the king as he weds third queen Jane Seymour (Annabelle Wallis) and then Anne of Cleves.

Stone, who burst onto the music scene in 2003 and has had three gold albums in the U.S., has been looking to cross over into acting. In 2006, she had a role in the fantasy feature “Eragon.”

Stone, who is working on a new album, is repped by Fortitude and attorney Bob Myman.

For all of you who love Bill Maher, this is a Q & A from THR.com about his new movie that open on October 3rd. The new season of “Real Time with Bill Maher” returns on August 29th on HBO.

For a movie that skewers organized religion, Bill Maher’s “Religulous” is, well, a little preachy. And Maher is fine with that. The documentary, director Larry Charles’ follow-up to 2006’s smash “Borat,” follows the irascible comedian on an anti-spiritual journey from Jerusalem to a Jesus theme park in Florida. It’s due Oct. 3 from Lionsgate and Maher returns to TV on Aug. 29 for an election-themed cycle of his Emmy-nominated HBO talk show, “Real Time with Bill Maher.”
