George Anthony admitted in a national interview that his daughter Casey was responsible for stealing gas cans from the family’s backyard shed. Channel 9 first reported last week when investigators removed the cans from the family’s home and George Anthony said Casey did not steal them.
In a police report filed by George Anthony on June 24, he said two gas cans were stolen from a shed on the side of their house, but Tuesday night he admitted to Fox News that he found out his daughter stole them on the same day.
“She said that it’s a shame what happened in the shed and I said, ‘Really?’ She said ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Interesting,’” George said.
George said that he pressed Casey for a metal tool used to rotate tires that was also in her car.
“She’s still telling me, ‘I’ll get it Dad, I’ll get it.’ I said, ‘I’m capable of reaching in your car and getting it.’ She opened up the trunk of the car and there were the gas cans. She’s the one that took the gas cans,” he said.
Caylee Anthony’s grandparents said they have received several threats at home in the form of letters, phone calls and e-mails. Cindy Anthony said one extortion letter was even forwarded to investigators.
While Casey Anthony sits behind bars, her mother Cindy said at least her daughter is safe.
“I can’t protect her in my house,” said Cindy.
After three weeks in the national spotlight, the Anthony’s say they feel like targets.
“Threatening letters, threatening phone calls, threatening e-mails and we got an extortion letter yesterday that was forwarded to the police,” Cindy said.
A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said investigators know nothing of an extortion letter and are not actively investigating any threats to the Anthony family’s safety. Cindy claims the threats are real and it goes beyond complete strangers. She accuses old friends of turning on the family.
“People can hate me. They can continue to send me hate mail, but you never know. I’m 50 years old and I never imagined I’d be walking and living this nightmare,” she said.
